Training and Development

Coordinate the academic training and professional development of teachers through:

  • Identification of teacher training needs in upgrading their professional training;
  • Explore funding alternatives for different qualification streams;
  • Liaise with tertiary service providers on delivery mode of courses to address accessibility challenge for teachers;
  • Liaise with Sector Coordination Division to ensure training needs are reflected in future Annual Plans for the Education Sector for funding support;
  • Assess gaps in teacher professional practice and identify and implement priority training or interventions to improve performance;
  • Liaise with SQA to ensure training programs provided for teachers fall within recognition of prior learning or accredited;
  • Consider professional standards for teachers in National Teacher Development Framework when assessing training needs;
  • Provide support and advice to teachers during transition and while undergoing professional development to address any needs at the time.
  • Develop and implement Capability Plans for the teaching professionals to ensure continuous development programs are in place for enhancement quality teaching services in line with existing curriculum and subject area needs;
