Yesterday (August 31) marks the celebration of the official opening of the new school buildings for Tuanai Primary School. This was funded by the government of Japan through its ongoing scheme of Japan’s Grant Assistance for Grassroots Human Security Projects (GGP).

The total cost of the project is USD $111,646 (SAT$278,280.16)which included the reconstruction of the main school building with 8 new classrooms, a hall, a staffroom and a library.

The keynote address was delivered by the Prime Minister, Affioga Tuilaepa Sailele Malielegaoi. He thanked the government of Japan for their continuous support to the development of Education in our country.

His Excellency Maugaoleatuolo Shinya Aoki, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Japan to Samoa officially handover the 8 new classrooms, a hall, a staff room and a library to Tuanai Primary School.

Japan’s GGP development assistance had been ongoing for 26 years and focused on small scale projects that directly benefited the grassroots level as well as contributing to the socio-economic development of Samoa.

It is recorded that over 90 similar projects of reconstruction and expansion of school buildings had been successful implemented in the field of Education.

The school has a roll of 208 students with 8 teachers.
