Close to 40,000 Primary School students were called up for the end of the year national assessments to be held from October 23 to October 27, 2017. Primary students in 7 year levels sat assessments to target literacy & numeracy (Year 1 to Year 6).  Of note, science literacy has also been added to the Year 6.  At Year 8, the students sat assessments focusing on all the seven subjects taught in schools.

This is a great improvement compared to previous years, when assessments were conducted only at Year 4 (SPELL 1), Year 6 (SPELL 2) and Year 8 (SPECA); the latter indicating the end of Primary Education.

The new Year 1 and Year 2 assessments, covering Numeracy and Samoan literacy, were administered orally through individual teacher-student interviews.

The Scoring (traditionally understood as marking) will be done the first week of November. The Ministry aims to release the Year 8 results before school breaks up in December.
