t4An annual event which falls on the 5th of October reflects the importance of Teachers and the impact they have on our children’s education. This year the Ministry of Education, Sports and Culture organised an exciting event which featured a competition of school districts contestants for the Mr and Miss Samoa Teachers’ Day Pageant 2018. One of them is a Peace Corps Volunteer and the other from our ECE colleagues.

The pageant was based on three main different categories: Talent, Interview and Teachers’ Wear. This was an extraordinary event that acknowledged and honored the services of all teachers in Samoa as well as their tremendous contribution to education in our society. The universal theme for this year is The right to education means the right to a qualified teacher”. One of the highlight of the program was the display of booths from school districts. Everyone was invited to view displaying of the best work of both students and teachers for the 2018 school year. In addition, there was also pre-entertainment and performances by selected groups from different districts which took place prior to the main event of the evening, the pageant competition.

The Honourble Minister, Afioga Loau Solamalemalo Keneti Sio presented the keynote address acknowledging the hard work of all teachers in Samoa. Welcoming remarks was delivered by MESC CEO, Afioga Afamasaga Karoline Fuata’i-Afamasaga. 

The finale was the Prize Giving for the different categories announcing winners judged by a selected panel of judges. Special awards were presented to ECE as the top booth display, Mr & Miss Internet that was won by Faleata contestants as well as the Bluesky award, the Mr & Miss Photogenic which also went to Mr & Miss Faleata. For the 3 categories, the Best Talent was awarded to Mr & Miss Palauli, the Best Teachers’ Wear was won by Anoamaa & Fagaloa contestants and the Best Interview went to Falealili contestants.

The overall winners listed as Mr & Miss ECE for the 3rd runner, 2nd runner up was a tie between Faasaleleaga and Palauli contestants with Anoamaa & Fagaloa contestants winning the 1st runner up. The champions who took the crown of the 2018 Mr & Miss Teachers’ Day was won by Miss Lotonuu Taliaoa and Mr Tunu Leasiolagi of Falealili district. The Taualuga wrapped up the night with the overall winners’ Siva Samoa as well as all the contestants with families, friends and supporters who enjoyed this year’s special program. The Honorable Minister, CEO & MESC management and the organinisng committee acknowledged with appreciation the support of the major sponsors, BSL, Bluesky and EFKSTV2 with the assistance of other associate sponsors, the SROs, school committees, principals, families and districts who all contributed to the success of this year’s Teachers’ Day commemoration.
