solosolo 4The official opening of the new school building for Solosolo Primary School took place on Friday 16/11/18. The Government of Japan and the village of Solosolo celebrated the completion of their new school building funded through Japan’s Grant Assistance for Grassroots Human Security Projects with the efforts and hard work of the school committee and the villagers.

The Acting Prime Minister also the Minister of Health, Hon. Tuitama Dr. Leao Talalelei Tuitama delivered the keynote address and the Minister of Education, Sports and Culture, Hon. Loau Solamalemalo Keneti Sio, cut the ribbon to officially open the new building. The ceremony was attended by government officials, parents, teachers, invited guests and students.

His Excellency Maugaoleatuolo Shinya Aoki, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Japan to Samoa congratulated the completion of the project. He stressed the importance of having access to quality education and emphasized on how his government assisted in the prioritised areas such as education.

“Education is extremely important which can widen our life choices and allows us to improve the quality of life. Japan believes that aiming for the development of basic educational facilities to the deserving schools across Samoa is an effective and significant method of assisting people”.

Funds of $281,466.90 SAT assisted with the beginning of the project plus the fundraisings and input by the school committee and Solosolo village that enabled the construction of 3 new classrooms, the library, computer room and the school hall.

Solosolo Primary School has a roll of 301 students with 10 teachers.
