The keynote address for the launch was done by the Honourable Prime Minister, Hon. Tuilaepa Lupesoli’ai Sa’ilele Malielegaoi. This was followed by cutting of the ribbon by the Minister of Communication, Information and Technology, Hon.Safuneitu’uga Pa’aga Neri to formally handover the laptops to the Primary Schools.

The main aim of the OLPC project is for it to be used as a learning tool as well as introducing how technology can sustain and enhance the effectiveness of learning and teaching outside in the rural areas where there is limited availability of resources.

Basic training, of the teachers and principals of the respective schools, for operation and management of the laptops were conducted by the Ministry of Education Sports and Culture’s (MESC) ICT Unit. And this was followed up by training conducted by the MESC Primary Curriculum Unit, on how the programmes in the laptops complement the curriculum for that school year level.

If the project proves successful and donor funding is secured, it is the intention of the SPC to send more laptops and hopefully then we can spread out the project to include more schools.
